CMF Industry Chat 1

The first CMF Virtual Industry Chat got us off to a great start in helping the CMF Exec and Board understand what’s going on in the UK kids media supply industries.  A dozen people from the widest parts of the industry got together for an hour on the 26th May for a ‘Digital Coffee Morning’. The point was to provide an informal setting for people to talk through their current experiences. Just like a real coffee morning, people could come and go (though you have to provide your own coffee and biscuits. Sorry….)

Our ‘inspirational’ guests were Billy MacQueen from Darrell Macqueen, creators of the Apple Show ‘Lovely Little Farm’, and Jon Mason from the digital agency Jollywise, who revealed that they’re now in pre-production for their own commissioned show. Everyone who turned up got a chance to have a say about the latest trends from their perspective. CMF learnt a lot more about the detail from the position not only of small and medium producers but also from games production, publishing, theatre and diversity inclusion.

One of the biggest learns for those turning up? Finding that others were going through exactly the same  head banging hassles. In particular, getting platforms to engage, and facing the issue of known brand extension and originals. Most people felt they were managing to survive, if not always to thrive.  Although one participant felt that we are about see many small companies go to the wall despite tax relief because commissions are so hard to come by and service work isn’t taking up the slack.

Next chat is on Wednesday 7th June at 6.30pm (we’re aware that day events are not always possible for some people), with inspirers ANNE BROGAN AND JOCELYN STEVENSON. To join, please use this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88677707484

Anyone from the UK production and associated industries is welcome. If you could let mfranks@adastradevelopment.com know that you’re planning to turn up it would just give us an idea of  numbers though feel no compulsion – you’re welcome if you just fancy at the last minute, and if you can’t make it after all, no hassle. If this ‘Chat’ goes as well as the first, we’ll definitely organise more.
