Children, Film and Literacy

A new research publication has been released about child learning development and watching films.Children, Film and Literacy by Dr Becky Parry is based research carried out in primary schools in Yorkshire. It explores the role films play in children's lives and the impact it has on the development of literacy.

The book examines the way in which film stimulates imaginative play and develops children's understanding of narrative. The research also highlights the way in which some students can be put at a disadvantage if their experiences of film and other media are not valued in the curriculum or the classroom.

An animated interpretation can be seen here.

Through Becky's long connection as a member of the Research Advisory Group of CMF the book is available at a discount price when you purchase it on the Palgrave publisher's site.
