Children’s TV Tax Break a Reality
"Draft Applications" being accepted
The BFI are now accepting applications for the first stage of the qualification process for the new tax incentive.
The BFI's Head of Certification, Anna Mansi, has announced that they are now able to accept ‘draft’ applications for what they call "letters of comfort" under the Children’s Television Tax Relief scheme. The new relief will apply to Children’s Television Programmes "in principal photography on or after 1st April 2015".
These letters are designed to allow production companies to seek out their financing with security in the knowledge that they will qualify under the scheme.
The cultural test legislation is expected to be completed later this year and then the BFI will be able to issue interim or final certificates in place of letters of comfort.
The tax relief is a great bonus for UK - based production of live-action television for children and we hope the starting point of more funding to come!
