A Good Deal for the BBC?
A Bad Deal for British Kids?
The CMF issued a strongly worded press release condemning the "behind the scenes" and hurried negotiations which led to the recent BBC Licence Fee settlement (as did other organisations like Pact and the VLV).
Our concern, as always is the children's audience. With no public consultation and no transparency in the process, there was no opportunity for us to put the vitally important argument that because the BBC is essentially the only commissioner of UK kids' content, any cuts to the children's budget will mean an overall dilution of the children's content offering in the UK - unlike any other genre.
As you will have seen from recent press reports, the debate on BBC Charter Renewal is hotting up, with the announcement of the group who'll advise the Government on the future of the BBC and the imminent publication of a Government Green Paper.
The advisory group:
- Dawn Airey
- Dame Colette Bowe
- Andrew Fisher
- Darren Henley
- Ashley Highfield
- Alex Mahon
- Lopa Patel
- Stewart Purvis
CMF intends to be fully engaged, with these and all the players in this debate and we'd like to hear your thoughts on the future of children's at the BBC: info@thechildrensmediafoundation.org
