Ofcom PSB Regulation
As a result of the amendment to the Digital Economy Act proposed by Baroness Benjamin, Ofcom now have the right (and the responsibility) to require ITV, Channel 4 and Channel Five to carry more children's content. The definition of that regulation has been left open. The Act simply says Ofcom "may" regulate.
So now the regulator is talking to all the interested parties in a series of roundtables. This is a first step towards defining what forms that regulation should take. On October 9th CMF will represent the interests of the children's audience by contributing to this "scoping" process, which will help Ofcom develop proposals to go to a full public consultation.
