Contestable Fund
Planning for the new Contestable Fund for Public Service Content is under way, with the DDCMS and BFI meeting fortnightly to flesh out the remit and organisational structure.
CMF will be meeting Ben Roberts, Director of the BFI Film Fundand responsible for the Contestable Fund planning, in June. What we know from conversations with the civil servants involved is that in their opinion the Fund can only be focused on content that will be free at the point of access. So this essentially points towards the commercial public service providers ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. The final proposals for the Fund should be public "by the summer" with a view to the Fund operating from April 2019.
