The Decline of Arts in Schools

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Children's Media and the Arts covers a wide range of issues affecting young people, raising awareness of their cultural and creative needs with politicians in both houses and all parties. Having hosted a successful event for parliamentarians to meet the BFI's Jackie Edwards at the launch of the Young Audience's Content Fund, the All Party Parliamentary Group is returning its attention to an issue that it has been pursuing for a number of years: the decline of arts and cultural experiences for kids in schools.

On 9th July the APPG has invited Action For Children's Arts to present their fantastic scheme The Arts Backpack UK to parliamentarians.  This scheme offers every UK primary school child access to at least five varied quality arts experiences during the academic year.  A truly 21st Century initiative, the children will be given a digital backpack in which to safely store, share and reflect upon their experiences.
