Nicky Cox MBE

Nicky Cox MBE is the CEO of Children United, the organisation behind TVCU – the world’s first global news and factual content channel for children.

She has nearly four decades of experience in journalism, broadcasting and children’s media, including working as a journalist at The Sunday Times before joining BBC Worldwide for 13 years as editorial director of the children’s division, with responsibility for the commercial exploitation of BBC Children’s brands, spanning publishing, licensing and international distribution, as well as being on the brand development board for new BBC Children’s programming.

Alongside her broadcast leadership, Nicky has maintained a long-standing career in journalism. She is a regular columnist on children’s issues, writing about childhood, education, media literacy and children’s rights in an increasingly complex digital world.

Nicky is also CEO of production company Fresh Start Media, which produced the double BAFTA-winning FYI for Sky Kids and Sky News, alongside documentaries and other factual programming for young audiences.

In 2009, she was awarded an MBE for services to children. She is a WWF Ambassador, a UNICEF advisor, Patron of the British Citizen Youth Awards, and a member of the Young BAFTA committee.

She was also the founding editor of First News, the UK’s only newspaper for children where, for 20 years, she helped inform a generation of young readers and cemented her lifelong mission to ensure children can access trusted, impartial information.

Through Children United and TVCU, Nicky is now leading an ambitious global initiative to ensure children everywhere – regardless of background or geography – can access free, engaging, trustworthy news and factual content in a world increasingly shaped by algorithms, misinformation and AI.
