Fake News and Misinformation – Helping Young People Check the Facts

This evening event explored the issues around young people accessing and verifying news and information in an increasing complex and manipulated media environment.

The topics covered included media literacy, fact-checking, the role of social media in social and democratic life, and how best to protect young people from mis- and dis-information while retaining freedom of choice.

The event looked at how many young people are being negatively affected by the fake reporting and misinformation they encounter in the media they consume.

At the recent launch of C4’s latest research on Gen Z, Trends, Trust and Truth, C4’s Alex Mahon said  “Gen Z faces growing uncertainty in who and what to trust, struggling to reconcile issues of bias, impartiality and truth in such an information-saturated environment.”
