Michael Rose OBE

Michael is joint CEO and co-founder of Magic Light Pictures, one of the UK’s most successful family entertainment companies.

Starting with Oscar nominated The Gruffalo, adapted from the classic book by authors Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, Magic Light’s annual animated specials have become a leading feature of Christmas on BBC1, delighting family audiences on BBC and around the world. The company’s other productions include Oscar nominated animated feature film, Chico & Rita; Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes and pre-school series hit Pip and Posy. The company has also built the hugely successful Gruffalo & Friends brand with trails, experiences and consumer products.

Prior to forming Magic Light, Michael headed the feature film division of Aardman Animations and was executive  producer for animated films such as Chicken Run and the Oscar and BAFTA winning Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit. He also produced Nick Park’s 1995 Oscar winning Wallace and  Gromit film A Close Shave and two other Oscar nominated shorts.

Before joining Aardman in 1994, Michael was a programme buyer at Channel Four Television. He started his career programming art house cinemas in Plymouth and Bristol.
