Joe Godwin
As Director of BBC Children's, Joe Godwin was responsible for all of the BBC’s services for children: the CBBC and CBeebies channels and their websites, including the CBeebies Radio online service and the CBeebies Grown Ups site.
Joe joined the BBC in its regional news operation in Southampton in 1986 and moved to the Children's Programmes department in 1989 as a trainee assistant producer. From 1989-1997 he worked on shows such as Blue Peter, Going Live and Record Breakers. From 1997-2000 he was Editor of Children's Presentation.
In 2000 he moved to Nickelodeon UK as Head of Original Production.
Joe returned to the BBC in 2005 as Head of Children’s Entertainment, and in 2009 was appointed Director of Children's. In 2011 he led the move of the entire Children’s department to its new home at MediaCityUK in Salford.
Joe is now Director, BBC Midlands and BBC Academy.
Appointed Director of BBC Birmingham in December 2014, Joe was given responsibility for pan-Birmingham BBC initiatives, developing external partnerships, representing the BBC in the region and the overall leadership of the BBC sites in the city. In June 2016 his remit was extended across the whole of the Midlands.
As Director of the BBC Academy - the UK media sector's biggest skills trainer - Joe is responsible for maintaining and growing the skill levels of the BBC's world class content makers, journalists and digital creatives across the UK and overseas.
